Baltonsborough CE VC Primary School

A lovely start to the year

I am very much enjoying my second year as Headteacher of Baltonsborough CE VC Primary School.   Though I have always felt very welcome and a part of the community, it is a good feeling to have a better understanding of events as they come around, and to plan new and exciting events too.

The term started with a training day for the staff on Assessment for Learning and investigating a new calculation policy for maths. All teaching assistants have received training in delivering maths interventions. We had an interesting staff meeting led by Mike Strange from the Diocese of Bath and Wells who shared a wealth of RE resources with us and had us all singing along to his guitar.

The children enjoyed the pantomime Pinocchio, paid for by our amazing Friends of Baltonsborough School. We held a parent workshop on Quality Marking and our calculation policy. I have started an Explorers Club to challenge our more able learners. We enjoyed a celebration of Chinese New Year led by Lambrook Class with an amazing dragon dance, and this morning had an Eco School water saving assembly. This, I have to say, was fascinating but rather ironic with the current flooding situation in Somerset. We have been very lucky, and for that we are thankful, and our thoughts go to those living in parts of Somerset which are more heavily affected.

I look forward to the lovely spring weather. There is a fantastic buzz around the school. If you want to find out more about us, ring the lovely Doulla in the school office and she will arrange for me to show you around.
