Book Club

Children from Ashcott, Baltonsborough and Meare primary schools met to discuss the latest story they have been reading in their Book Clubs – The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C S Lewis.  Copies of the book have been generously funded by Wells Festival of Literature and the first thing the children noted was just how many different editions of the book there are.

The children discussed their favourite characters.  Lucy was a popular choice – as Grace from Meare said, “She is very adventurous and she finds Narnia first”.  Dylan from Baltonsborough was fond of the Ice Queen’s dwarf, and Bella from Meare really liked Susan, “because she is sensible but also brave”.   Everyone agreed that one of the best scenes is when Lucy walks through the wardrobe and meets Mr Tumnus.  Lottie from Ashcott particularly enjoyed the scene when the children became kings and queens of Narnia.  Michelle Heap, Headteacher of Baltonsborough Primary School which hosted the meeting, said “It’s wonderful that a classic, which we teachers read as children, is so popular with the youngsters today.  They really loved reading it.”
