Letter to parents about possible June return to school for Little Pips, YR, Y1 and Y6

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, the Prime Minister announced on Sunday that schools would extend their opening from 1st June, at the earliest, if considered safe at the time. In the first instance, this would be to Early Years settings, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

As a staff, we have been working our socks off to put together a risk assessment and plan to provide, to the best of our ability, a safe environment. Staff have been so positive and helpful. I am proud of our team, as I am sure you know this is not an easy task.

Pip Rix will be contacting Little Pips parents to share the plan separately. We have been working closely as a team, but arrangements for a preschool setting are complex.

We will be opening for Year R, Year 1 and Y6. The children will be in one of 6 Bubbles. Each bubble will have a dedicated inside and outside space. Until we know how many children will be in, we can’t say exactly how many children will be in each bubble, but it will be considerably less than the recommended 15 maximum. The children will have their own resources, and each bubble will have playtime equipment that will be sterilised after each break/lunchtime.

Lunches will be eaten outside when possible, and in the dedicated bubble space if wet.   A packed lunch can be ordered from Beech Catering. I will continue to provide vouchers for children who receive benefits related free school meals.

There will be a staggered start to the day. If you have more than one child returning, then choose one of the times for both children. The same at the end of the day.

9am Year 1 2.45 collection

9.15am Yr 2.30 collection

The children will be brought to the playground and left with the leader of their bubble (who this will be to follow). At the end of the day, please wait outside the relevant classroom and when we see you, the children will be sent out. No parents will be able to enter the school building. We would ask that Social distancing  be respected by parents in the playground. If you have a message, or something to drop off, a staff member will be in the office to take messages. There will be a drop box too.

We do not, as a temporary measure, want the children to wear uniform. We would ask that they wear clean clothes each day. They would need a marked water bottle which would need to come home each day to be cleaned.

The risk assessment is detailed, and we have given much thought to it with the safety of children and staff being paramount. The situation changes daily, and we will amend and adjust as further guidance is received. I am sure you will have received this news with mixed feelings. All I can say is that we are doing our best to provide what we can, as a safely as we can. We care very much about you all.

We do need to know if you will be sending your child. There are various forms etc., being provided, but I think the best way for us is for you to email me direct. It would really help me to process this easily if you could put in the subject the child/children’s name(S), and if you want a lunch every day, would it be meat or vegetarian. If you are not intending to send your little people/person back, you don’t need to let me know. Of course, I am happy to hear from you, but for the purpose of working out who will be with us, I think the subject header will enable me to take the planning forward.

We will be focussing on making the children feel welcome and happy. There will be lots of outside learning. We are not going to launch into anything too formal, and certainly won’t be assessing where they are! There will be plenty of time for that.

For those children not in school, we will continue to provide home learning on the website.

I have tried to give you as much information as I can to inform your decision.

It would be brilliant if you could email by Monday, 18th to MHeap@educ.somerset.gov.uk

Subject header something like this:

Subject: Micky Mouse daily vegetarian Minnie Mouse Daily meat

With my love,
